The Eastern Coast of Queensland is lucky to be the location of a major migration route for whales. The whales are mostly humpback whales which are the fifth largest whale species. Typically the whales can be seen off coast between late May until November. After spending the summer feeding in the artic the humpbacks migrate North along the coastline during the earlier months of this May - November period. The whales head North to find warmer waters for feeding, birthing and the mating season. In the later months the whales repeat their journey South which provides the unique opportuinity to see the humpback mothers with their calves in the later months of this migration season.
Seeing these gentle giants in their natural enviornment is truly spectacular and is one of our most popular activities chosen by clients, as well as staff.
Over 20,000 humpbacks are estimated to do this return trip along the Eastern Coast meaning you are essentially guaranteed to see the whales. No matter where you choose to do this tour, when you book with Tailored Queensland we offer an exclusive money-back guarantee in the very rare occassion no whales are spotted during your trip.
If the price is too much or time is short we can take you to one of the coastal headlands where it is very common to see pods of these whales just off the coastline with binoculars. This is always a great evening as the sun sets over the pacific ocean and their breaches and blows scatter the horizon.
